Right Side Of The Brain
They say that “right brainers” are the creative types, the dreamers, the artists — that we're visual and intuitive, process ideas simultaneously, use “mind photos,” have a holistic view, use free association to brainstorm, like sensory input, listen to how something is said, and talk with our hands. (Isn't that why we have them?)
Here are some favorite resources that help me with right brain thinking. They range from books to politics to culture to — of course — humor.
Blogs I read:
...and for a hearty daily laugh, The Onion — indeed, America’s finest news source.
Fellow tweeters I like:

Books I'll never part with
Both old and new, these books inspire fresh thinking:
- What Are Old People For? by the big thinker Dr. Bill Thomas
- Love is the Killer App by Tim Sanders
- On Writing Well a 30-year-old classic by William Zinsser
Now reading:
- The Back of the Napkin, by Dan Roam
- Half the Sky, by Nick Kristoff
- Ignore Everybody: and 39 Other Keys to Creativity, by Hugh MacLeod
Inspiration
We believe in supporting great causes and hope you do, too! Here are my favorites - and why:
Constructores Para Cristo, www.cpcmexico.org
Yes, it matters! Individual lives and entire communities are being changed through the CPC Construction Ministry in Piedras Negras, Mexico. My family has been on CPC mission trips six times, building basic housing for poor Mexican families who often live in desperate conditions. During a typical summer, more than 800 volunteers pay their own way and commit a week of their lives to make a profound difference in the lives of Mexican families.

Green Beans Coffee, www.greenbeanscoffee.com
Honor first, coffee second. Green Beans’ “Cup of Joe for a Joe” program lets you buy a cup of coffee for a soldier serving far from home and have it delivered with your own personal note. The notes are sent to troops in Afghanistan and Iraq by email and the freshly brewed coffee is served at Green Beans Coffee cafes on the bases where they’re deployed. I come from a military family — and one that also loves coffee! Buy a cup now.

Toms Shoes "One for One," www.toms.com
This is such a great story! In 2006, American traveler Blake Mycoskie befriended children in Argentina and found they had no shoes to protect their feet. Wanting to help, he created TOMS Shoes, a company that would match every pair of shoes purchased with a pair of new shoes given to a child in need. Blake returned to Argentina with a group of family, friends and staff later that year with 10,000 pairs of shoes made possible by TOMS customers. As of September 2010, TOMS has given over one million pairs of new shoes to children in need through Giving Partners around the world. Buy a pair of TOMS shoes — help a child without shoes.
